Mastermind Behind Australia’s First Female Plumbing Service Recognised with Industry Award
21 July 2017
Helen Yost from Tradettes Plumbing has taken out the Queensland Building and Construction Commission’s Women in Plumbing and Gas Award at the 2017 Plumbing and Gas Industry Awards, held on Friday night at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane.
Helen is the mastermind behind creating Australia’s first female plumbing service and is a leader in a male dominated industry. She fosters the learning opportunities for her apprentices and allows every day Australian women the chance to create and perfect their trade skills for the benefit of their community.
Helen is a project manager at Tradettes Plumbing and has recently completed her Cert IV in Plumbing and has applied for her nominated supervisor licence. Tradettes Plumbing is based at Clontarf and specialises in maintenance and construction services.
Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland (MPAQ) Executive Director, Penny Cornah said Helen is one of many remarkable women paving the way forward for other women in this industry.
“Helen truly embodies the real reason as to why Tradettes exist, and she should be proud of what she has achieved for herself and all women in plumbing” she said.
Hosted by the Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland and with the Event Sponsor Tradelink, the Plumbing and Gas Industry Awards aim to highlight the hard work and dedication invested into the industry by apprentices, plumbers, gasfitters, hydraulic consultants and other industry individuals.
This year the awards recognised individuals and companies in 19 categories and hosted VIPs including the Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Sport, the Hon. Mick de Brenni MP, Shadow Minister for Housing and Public Works, Stephen Bennett, the Shadow Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply, Michael Hart, Shadow Assistant Minister for Preventing Family Violence, Terri Butler, State Secretary of the Plumbing and Pipe Trades Employees Union Qld, Gary O’Halloran and Commissioner of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission, Brett Bassett.
