Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland (MPAQ) was announced in October as a successful recipient in the latest round of Advancing Women in Business: Industry Partnerships program conducted by the Department of Training and Small Business.

The Queensland Government's Advancing Women in Business initiative supports and encourages more women to start and grow their own business, and attain positions of leadership.

The Women in Business project in 2017 – 2018 enabled MPAQ to highlight the roles that women play in the plumbing and gas industry and promote them accordingly. Through industry events, workshops and webinars, as well as newsletters and magazines, MPAQ has been able to reach a large number of women and connect them together to create support networks that will last.

MPAQ proudly created the Women’s Plumbing Alliance in 2017, which was established for both women working behind the scenes and also on the tools. Collaborating with the Women’s Plumbing Alliance committee in 2019, MPAQ will be working to:

• Increase the number of women as mentors in the plumbing and gas industry;
• Increase the number of women who start and grow their own business in the plumbing and gas industry;
• Increase the confidence of women in business and intensify their participation in networking, skill building and opportunities in the plumbing and gas industry;
• Enhance the engagement between Queensland Government and women in the plumbing and gas industry;
• Create and improve the content to address capacity and skills gaps for women in business in the plumbing and gas industry; and
• Engage and network with women in regional and remote areas of Queensland.

A full list of events and initiatives will be announced throughout November and December.

Through initiatives such as Advancing Women in Business, the Queensland Government recognises and appreciates the valuable contribution women in business make to the Queensland economy.
