An Update from the WPA Committee

Our Women’s Plumbing Alliance Committee is currently focussed on attracting new plumbing apprentices to our trade. We recently met with Construction Skills Queensland to seek some advice and support on a specific project to look at ways to increase the number of students entering into the plumbing industry. We understand that some schools heavily promote universities as the only pathway for a successful career, which is untrue, so we are currently looking for ways to promote trades as a successful pathway. If you have any ideas or would like to get involved please let MPAQ know.

On 11-12 May, MPAQ participated at the Brisbane Careers Expo held at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre. Our plumbing ambassador, David Keys, and apprentice ambassador, Sarah Condie, were on hand to talk to students, parents and career advisors about the opportunity of a successful career in the plumbing industry. One of the key focuses for both the plumbing and apprentice ambassador is to raise awareness to students about studying an apprenticeship and explaining where a trade can take them both professionally and personally.

David and Sarah represent the different stages of a career in plumbing and had the opportunity to share a diverse and valuable insight into the industry. Our ambassadors play an important role with MPAQ, and we will be attending future career expos. We look forward to promoting the plumbing industry as a successful career path.
