A leader in gas distribution

Australian Gas Networks (AGN) is part of the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG), a family of companies owning and operating gas transmission and distribution pipelines across Australia.

Through its gas distribution networks in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, AGN currently delivers a safe and reliable supply of natural gas to over 1.3 million homes and businesses.

In Queensland, our origins go back to the days of the Brisbane Gas Company (which started operating in the 1860s). Today, our gas network sits north of the Brisbane River, servicing over 107 000 customers through a network comprising approximately 3,400 km of mains.

Key network growth areas:

  • North Brisbane
  • Ripley
  • Ipswich

We invest around $250 million each year to maintain our networks (so that our customers have continued access to the comfort, convenience, and reliability of natural gas) and to grow; this demonstrates our commitment to being the leading gas distributor in Australia.

AGN Supplies the Brisbane CBD, northern suburbs of Brisbane, Ipswich, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Maryborough, and Hervey Bay.

A leader in renewable gas

AGN and the AGIG family are committed to securing a cleaner future, investing in the decarbonisation journey for the long-term interests of our customers and the environment. We are leading the way in renewable gas by investing in a range of innovative energy projects across Australia and across the gas value chain. Our current projects include:

  • The Australian Hydrogen Centre
  • Hydrogen Park South Australia
  • Hydrogen Park Gladstone

Hydrogen Park Gladstone is an exciting project for the state of Queensland, as it will be Australia's first whole network decarbonisation network. Using a 175kW PEM electrolyser, this project will produce renewable hydrogen for blending with natural gas (of up to 10%) to supply the entire network of Gladstone, including businesses.

Our notable partners in this journey include the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre, Australian Hydrogen Council, Bioenergy Australia, and the Australian Industry Transition Initiative. We are also in discussions with manufacturers and appliance retailers to ensure the hydrogen journey is supported by all levels of the industry.
