Rheem began operations in Australia in 1936 as an overseas venture of Rheem Manufacturing, an American drum manufacturer. In 1939, Rheem Australia manufactured its first gas water heater in the inner Sydney suburb of Waterloo and production of electric water heaters commenced in 1945.
