Employment Contracts - Apprentices

In Queensland, an Apprenticeship and School-Based Apprenticeship in plumbing provide the pathway to becoming a qualified tradesperson. However, there are key differences as set out below. The relevant Award coverage for these contracts is:

• Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award 2020 Building and Construction General On-Site Award 2020

The contract bundle includes:

• 1 x Full time editable PDF Contract - Apprentices
• 1 x Part time editable PDF Contract - School based apprentices

• Inclusions

  The contract bundle includes:

  Apprentice – Full time

  • For individuals who are not in school and engaged as a plumbing industry apprentice. They generally take 4 years (Plumbing) or 3 years (roof plumber) to complete and are entitled to full time employment entitlements. 
  • Typically work full time at 38 hours (on average) per week.

  School Based Apprentice – Part time 

  • For high school students in years 10, 11, 12 and undertaken concurrently with high school studies. Work is completed on a part-basis and meeting minimum hours of work requirements in accordance with the training arrangement and is integrated into the school week. 
  • A school based apprentice requires additional co-ordination with the school, pupil and registered training organisation (RTO) and employer.
